Startup brands on social media, specifically Instagram, listen up: this blog is all about you and all for you.
You’ve seen all the themes… Black and white, puzzles, every other quote. While some of these options have grown to be quite stale, one thing remains the same: creativity is a must in capturing the attention of a user, and quickly. Graphics are an amazing way to break up your social media feed, grab attention, and be informative before a user’s eye lands on a caption.
So here’s the million-dollar question, do you really need Social Media graphics on your Instagram?
And the simple answer is YES. If you’re still in doubt, we’ve prepared some convincing reasons just for you!
1. Graphics grab people’s attention more quickly.
Did you know, you only have 2 seconds to capture your audience’s attention? This is how quick people scroll through their social channels today, and this is the time frame everyone trying to sell something is working with.
Of course, you can just post a normally edited photo of a product you sell (if you’re a brand) and let the algorithm do the work for you. But do you really think that it can lead to more sales for your business which is the sole reason why you started an Instagram account?
Let’s say you posted a product on sale. No graphics, no “Catch this sale before it’s over!” – nothing in the caption either. Do you think people will know? No.
2. It creates an aesthetic Instagram profile and feed.
What is an aesthetic and why does it matter? Your social profiles and feeds should be visually appealing in order to capture your audience attention. A rule to follow; 20% graphics and 80% lifestyle imagery, products, etc.
Deciding on a color scheme that encompasses your branding is a good start. With the power of Social Media graphics, you can have a visually appealing aesthetic feed. We recommend investing in some filters that brand your content accordingly.
You can use Photoshop (recommended for professionals) for a sharper outcome but you can also use easy-to-use free online graphic design tools like Canva, PicMonkey, etc. There’s too many free online, easy to use graphic design options that there’s no excuse not to try them (plus, they’re kinda fun to use too) .
3. It can lead people into your profile and business website.
If you want to show that your products are high-quality, using text and graphics can hype it up, generate more consumer interest, and eventually people will visit your profile, go to your brand’s website, and buy something from you. Suddenly, you’ve made a sale!
Do you notice the flyers or posters pasted on store windows, or pinned to the bulletins when you enter malls or shopping districts? Most of the time, we don’t. Do we see them? Yes. Do we act on them? Most of the time, unless we’re familiar with the brand, not really.
That is, unless they have really good graphic design on top of interesting and/or high-quality photos. That’s the sort of the attention you want- to be something eye catching in a sea of social media noise, where everyone is bombarded with sales and new products and grand openings- you need to figure out a style of graphic design that fits your tone, your brand, and that stands out from the rest of the crowd. And it’s just the same marketing strategy when posting Instagram photos with graphics promoting your brand. You’re simply attracting customers online and not in a mall.
